Sprites Errant is currently a one-man operation, making retro-style video games. I am a nostalgia gamer. I enjoy video games that remind me of the ones I played as a kid (playable on modern hardware - of course).
Thomas Happ's Axiom Verge (2015), is a terrific example of what I am after. It is like Metroid (1986), but better, in every respect. It is bigger, it has similar gameplay, offering a cooler story, with improved retro graphics, and a kick-ass, atmospheric soundtrack. Playing Axiom Verge, as an adult, feels the way playing Metroid felt to me, as a child.
I am not looking for faithful recreations of the classics, but the classics++. I want Ultima (1981), but less gonzo and with more items, Ice Climber (1985)...in space, Shinobi (1987) with a cyberpunk skin and all the synth, or a Splatterhouse(1988) in the Mountains of Madness.
See my upcoming projects for what is to come.
